Legacies by Design™ was born from a deeply personal belief: building wealth is only part of the journey. The greater responsibility is creating the clarity, structure, conversations, and preparation that allow what we've built to continue beyond us.
Because a family should inherit more than assets.
They should inherit direction. They should inherit our live experiences and lessons.
WHERE THE STORY BEGAN
This Work Is Personal.
Long before Legacies by Design™ had a name, its foundation was being shaped by the women who came before me – especially my grandmother (picture on the left). Oh and that's me in the middle surrounded by some my beautiful cousins.
My grandmother's life taught me something I would understand more deeply as I grew older:
A woman can leave an extraordinary legacy even when she doesn't leave extraordinary wealth.
What she passed forward wasn't simply measured in dollars. It was found in her strength. Her sacrifice. Her wisdom. Her resilience (that would not fully understand until I got older). Her faith. This all showed me what it means to build something that lasts. But her story (and my mom’s story) also revealed what happens when knowledge, decision and responsibilities aren’t prepared for the next generation.
That realization became part of the foundation for Legacies by Design™.
I wanted to help women create something different.
Not simply to leave something —but leave something their families are prepared to continue.

Dr. La Tonya Williams is a legacy strategist, financial educator, entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for family continuity.
As the founder of Legacies by Design™, a legacy leadership and financial empowerment company created to help accomplished women move from financial success to intentional family continuity.
But her work didn't begin with a company. It began with lived experience.
As a single mother, grandmother, professional, entrepreneur, and new family matriarch, Dr. La Tonya understands what it means to be the woman people depend on—the woman who remembers, organizes, solves, supports, provides, and quietly carries responsibilities that often live nowhere except in her head.
Her professional career has also been built around systems, investigation, risk, organization, and asking an important question:
What happens when the person who knows how everything works is no longer available?
Over time, that question became deeply personal.
She began applying the same principles of preparation, documentation, organization, and continuity to something even more important: family.
Today, through Legacies by Design™, Dr. La Tonya brings together financial education, legacy organization, family communication, and intentional planning to help women transform everything they've built into a blueprint their families can understand and continue.
